Coming to our Church for the first time
We
hope that you will always feel welcome at any of our centres of worship,
but walking into a church for the first time can be daunting.
Here are some hints:
·
There may well be other newcomers that day.
We are used to meeting new people.
·
Someone should be at the door to meet you and give
you the books you will need. They are there to answer any questions you may
have.
·
You can sit wherever you like. There are no
reserved seats.
·
We usually stand to sing, and sit or kneel to pray,
but don't worry if you think you've got it wrong. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' way.
·
It is very good to laugh at jokes in the sermon. If
in doubt, however, whether a joke was intended it may be better just to
smile behind your hand.
·
If it is a Holy Communion service we go up to the altar
and hold out our hands to receive the bread and wine. Just watch
someone. If you are a member of the Christian Church you are welcome
to receive communion, but if that is not right for you please still come up
to the altar - but bring an order of service booklet with you and we will
know just to give you a blessing. If you prefer, you may stay in your seat.
·
If you'd like to, please stay behind
for tea or coffee after the service. You'll be made very welcome, and
it's an ideal opportunity to get to know people.
